LONDON – One in every three women in the UK admits she watches porn at least once a week, according to a new poll from Spanish survey firm Typeform. Another 30 percent said they watch “a few times a month.”

Of the 3,000 respondents who indicated they watch porn weekly, 90 percent watch online. Two-thirds indicated they watch on phones or tablets. A slim majority said they prefer to watch alone; 66 percent of porn-watching respondents said they never watch with someone else.

According to the survey, 63 percent of the porn-watchers said they prefer heterosexual material, 44 percent said they choose lesbian material, 13 percent said they enjoy gay male porn and 31 percent indicated they watch all kinds of adult content.

More than half of the respondents said porn has had a positive effect on their sex lives.

Undertaken on behalf of documentary filmmaker Amanda de Cadenet and women’s magazine Marie Claire, the internet poll surveyed about 9,000 women. The majority of respondents were 18-34 years of age.

De Cadenet told UK news outlet The Independent the truth about women and porn has been “hugely under-reported,” possibly because the reality seems out of step with traditional gender myths.

“Porn is here to stay, and we have to learn to negotiate it as sexual beings ourselves who may or may not be viewers, and as partners,” de Cadenet told The Independent. “Most of our respondents, at least, are using porn to find what they want, and to figure out how to please themselves.”
