Cash-Conscious Brits Recycle Sex Toys

VibratorsSAFRON WALDEN, England – The British are known as a frugal lot, but when it comes to recycling some things, even frugality should have a few limits. “Repurposing” lingerie bought with an ex-lover, for example, is perfectly acceptable, as long as the wearer feels sexy in the outfit.

Recycling sex toys, on the other hand, may have a significant “ew” factor.

According to the online sex toy retailer Bondara.co.uk, recycling sex toys bought with an ex-lover is quite the fad in Britain. And why not? Just because the relationship ended doesn’t mean one can’t find a use for bondage gear, condoms, lubes and massage oils when the next sex partner happens along.

The news caused a shudder at Female First, which reported the results of Bondara’s informal survey.

“Let’s hope they have given [the toys] a wipe first!” reporter Lucy Walton wrote.

Bondara managing director Chris Simms was more circumspect about the whole thing.

“The question of whether sex toys shared with an ex should die with the relationship is an interesting one,” Simms said. “From a hygiene point of view, there is no issue with reusing sex toys with a new partner as long as they have been thoroughly cleaned with warm soapy water or sex toy cleaner.”

However, “it is important to take your new partner’s feelings into consideration,” he added. “While you may not feel any emotional link between your ex and your sex toys, your partner may be uncomfortable using intimate items that are directly associated with sexual experiences you have shared with an ex. If this is the case, it might be wiser to invest in some new toys that belong exclusively to your new relationship.”
