Gibraltar-based 888 Holdings Limited, one of the world’s largest online gaming operators, has revealed to the London Stock Exchange that its suitability is being explored by gaming regulators in Nevada.

888, through its Dragonfish independent business-to-business division, has a long-term agreement with Harrah’s Entertainment Incorporated to provide the American firm’s Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment subsidiary with technology and services to operate online gambling sites for the World Series Of Poker and Caesars casino brands. 888 stated that these domains were only available to citizens of the UK and could not be accessed by Americans.

“Harrah's, which is registered with the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC), submitted to the NGC and the Nevada State Gaming Control Board an application for a finding of suitability concerning (Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment's) supplier relationship with Dragonfish,” read a statement from 888.

“The application relates to state law in Nevada that covers Nevada gaming companies conducting gaming outside the state of Nevada.”

Harrah’s filed the application under the Foreign Gaming Act, which covers a Nevada gaming company's dealings with non-American businesses. The Act was previously used in 2007 when regulators found Hong Kong businesswoman Pansy Ho suitable as a business partner for MGM Mirage in their shared ownership of the MGM Grand Macau. But, this marks the first time the gaming regulator has been asked to investigate the suitability of an online operator that took wagers from Americans before the enactment of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act in 2006.
