Thread: English speakers from Europe. How would you FIX the US economy

or at least some ideas as you see it from where you live?

Wow. Soooo many people.

in germany they give you 2500 Euro when your car is older than 9 years and you have it scraped to buy a new one. seems to help the car companies.

but since i love old cars it hurts a lot to see perfectly fine cars destroyed just because of this

I don´t think Europe is in a much better situation than US. The most advanced economies are suffering the worst crisis because this is a structural problem of the financial system. So basically US, Europe and countries like Japan have more or less the same problem, and that´s why they are trying to fix it in the same way: applying Keynes theories. Pushing the money into the market to make it work and to avoid a stop of the production.

I am sure the US government will make the right thing to fix this shitty situation, but the fact is that this is going to take a long time to let the market and the financial system to work properly again. Too many years of economical illusion can´t be converted so fast in a real economy.

Let´s cross the fingers to bet this tsunami pass faster as possible…

Maybe I am wrong, but here is the way I see a fix. Would it hurt in the begenning, Yeah but not much more than it does now.

1. Let the banks that did not do business the right way, FAIL! Thats what they get. FDIC ( savings insurance ) will have to pay out, and a lot of people will lose a lot of money, but they can move what they have to a new bank and start over.

2. Let the companies that survive from Loans fail as well. They should be forbidden to ever take another loan for things like R&D, Pay Roll, And loans for construction and new machinery should be only 50% or less of whats needed. That's what Profit is for.

3. The Auto Makers have Failed to adapt, so they should be allowed to die as well. They knew a crisis was coming, and they continued to pump out costly trucks that eat gas, destroy the ecology etc.

4. The Unemployed. Take the money that would have been given to those companies and banks listed above and divide it evenly between ALL the people in the US. Yep, even Bill Gates gets his share. ALL THE SAME! Let them do with it as they will. Most will spend wisely, and some will squander it, but in the long run, it will boost the economy more than anything.

Actually that would be the LOSS of millions. Think about it.

the soldiers get paid more while deployed. That money goes back to family and the bank.

The companies that supply them are making tons and that allows them to keep the employment levels, and also pay bonuses etc.

The companies that supply the supply companies the raw materials are getting paid as well.
