YNOT EUROPE – An undercover sting in Driffield, East Yorkshire, ended with the arrest of two men and the confiscation of a food-service van from which they sold sandwiches with more buns than local law allows.

According to police, the operation began when residents of the market town complained that pornography playing on a portable TV inside the van disrupted the peace. Police said the van’s owners used the hardcore content to attract customers as they left local pubs in the early morning hours. Those who purchased food and drinks received a side order of porn to go.

“The van had been operating for about two weeks,” police spokesman Sergeant Dave Jenkins told The Sun. “We received complaints that free porn DVDs were being offered to everyone who spent £5 or more on beer and burgers. Undercover officers made test purchases and found this to be true before Saturday night’s operation, when the caravan was seized.

“We won’t tolerate this, because a youngster could have been given the DVDs,” he added.

Although a complete list of charges has not been determined, Police Licensing Officer PC Carolyn Grundy told The Sun the van’s owners could face a variety of citations. In addition to providing adult entertainment without the proper authorization, it appears the van may not have licensed to sell food, either.

“It is unbelievable customers were being offered porn DVDs with their beer and burgers at an outlet that did not even have the necessary licenses,” Grundy said. “The operation went well, and we are now looking at the evidence to see what offenses have been committed.”
