YNOT EUROPE – British adult TV channel Television X has announced the 2012 nominees for its annual Soft and Hard Adult Film and Television Awards.

This is the third year for the SHAFTAs, which are determined by a vote of the general public. Online voting will begin Wednesday at SHAFTA.xxx. While there, voters may sample some of the action in the nominated films and download free wallpapers of talent who have been nominated.

The 2012 nominees include two former school teachers whose careers in education ended when their part-time jobs in porn were uncovered: Johnny Anglais is nominated for Male Performer of the Year, and producer Liselle Bailey’s Liselle’s Sordid Summer is up for Best Reality/Gonzo Series.

“Taking a load of porn stars to Ibiza could be seen as a dream job, but I’d say it’s nearly as tricky as controlling a class of 30 teenagers,” Bailey said of her work.

Controversial transsexual performer Holly Harlow is nominated in the Best New Starlet category, which usually is dominated by biologically female newcomers. Television X Head of Programming Chris Ratcliff defended the choice, saying TS content is popular and deserving of recognition.

“The demand for transsexual content has seen a dramatic rise in recent years, both online and through video-on-demand services on digital TV platforms,” Ratcliff said. “Holly Harlow has become one of the most watched performers, and the term ‘starlet’ fits her perfectly. She is feminine, sexy and a great performer.”

For the first time, Television X plans to stream behind-the-scenes footage from the event live on 15th March at SHAFTA.xxx. The SHAFTA Uncut show will be presented by performer Tanya Tate who will provide up-close-and-personal interviews with the SHAFTA nominees while she delivers all the gossip as it happens.
