Delhi PD’s New Tech Toy Flooded with Porn

WhatsAppPornNEW DELHI – Why bother to look for criminals when you can establish a presence on a worldwide social media network and have the criminals come to you?

That’s a logical question for the police in India’s capital city, where the police department established a WhatsApp hotline through which citizens can report police corruption.

Unfortunately, the app is collecting more porn than citizen tips. Evidently people worldwide enjoy thumbing their noses at cops on the other side of the globe.

Pornography possession is legal in India, but distribution is not. The folks in the U.S., Dubai, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana who’ve been thoughtful enough to share their personal porn stash with New Delhi’s long arm of the law may want to keep an eye over their shoulder.

The Delhi Police Department’s vigilance department launched the WhatsApp number Aug. 6. Since Sept. 6, the department has received 20,698 tips via the app. In the same period, 220 pornographic videos also found their way into the cop shop’s virtual inbox.
