Private, Voddler Launch New Subscription VOD Service


Voddler.com will offer its users unlimited hours of Private entertainment for a set monthly fee, in addition to the pay-per-view model the company currently employs.
YNOT EUROPE – Barcelona-based Private Media Group Inc. and Scandinavia’s Voddler Group AB have partnered to create a new video-on-demand subscription service for the web. The agreement means Voddler.com will offer its users unlimited hours of Private entertainment for a set monthly fee, in addition to the pay-per-view model the company currently employs.

To support the launch of the new service, Private added more than 20 new titles to the content library available on Voddler.com, and plans to add 20 more each month. By the end of the year, the companies expect more than 150 Private titles will be viewable on-demand by subscription through Voddler. The enhanced library incorporates material from across Private’s spectrum, including classic titles as well as gay content.

“Entering this next phase of our relationship with the leading VOD service provider in Scandinavia underscores the strength of our brand and offering,” said Private Chief Executive Officer Berth Milton. “Private’s expansive library of high-quality content combined with Voddler’s platform and exponentially growing user base marks a new era in how content is consumed moving forward. As we continue to expand our digital distribution strategy for consumer consumption across multiple screens, we expect Voddler to significantly add to revenues in 2011.”

In 2010, the two companies announced a multi-year agreement for the exclusive delivery of Private content to Voddler in order to leverage Voddler’s distribution platform for VOD in Scandinavia. They system incorporates both free ad-supported and pay-per-view solutions.

Voddler has launched an extended content filter function to help its subscription customers manage access to content. The filter function assists individuals in limiting their exposure to specific titles and families who share a login among members of varying ages.

Voddler offers premium films and series, both pay-per-view and advertising-funded, on internet-connected devices where and when the viewer wants. The website boasts more than 1 million registered users in the four markets where it operates: Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. In 2010, “Voddlerites” watched more than 5 million films from a growing catalog of nearly 4,000 titles provided by leading entertainment companies and film studios worldwide. In February 2011, Voddler, raised $8 million in funding in a round led by Nokia Growth Partners. Voddler recently announced an expansion into to Spain, with a planned launch date in the third quarter of this year.
