What Features Define ‘the Optimal Mobile App?’

YNOT EUROPE – Barcelona-based Cherry Media S.L. has launched the first stage in what the company calls an “adult app experiment” as part of ongoing research into the way consumers actually relate to mobile adult entertainment. Cherry hopes the experiment will provide data enabling conclusions about designing optimal local and international business models.

“Generating sustainable new revenues from apps is not easy, as I pointed out in one of my articles, ‘Mobile Apps: Show Me The Money!” Cherry Media founder and Chief Executive Officer Julia Dimambro said. “We see too many of our partners investing time, money and resources in creating erotic applications without any real facts as to what is the best business model, distribution channel, billing method and marketing strategy for their audience and objectives. We aim to change that with our learnings from the Adult App Experiment so that we can effectively identify all of these factors based on real results for our partners’ specific requirements, target audience and budget.”

Among the goals of the research are:

  • Identify the best global and local conversion strategies of different app models: free, freemium and premium.
  • Test various complimentary strategies and technical add-on features to better monetize and cross-sell erotic applications.
  • Evaluate submission strategies, positioning and resulting performance of the different app stores in relation to graded glamour and adult apps.
  • Discover the strongest territories in which to monetize adult apps and the associated optimal billing partners for each territory.
  • Examine consumer interaction with different adult apps.

The initial experimental app, launched under the Cherry Media Apps brand, is designed for devices that employ the Android operating system. Part of a series called Cherry Stars, the bikini-graded product offers 20 images of popular performer Aletta Ocean. The app’s launch coincided with Ocean’s birthday in December. Because the app offers only non-nude images, Cherry was able to place it in a variety of online app stores, including Google Play, as a free download.

Dimambro said new performers will be added to the Cherry Stars line each month, allowing fans to collect the different apps and have instant access to high-quality images and videos on their android devices. As the portfolio grows, the ideally the apps will promote each other: Consumers who’ve downloaded one app may seek out the others.
